I was born in Gisborne, New Zealand, at 6.30 pm on 25 June, 1948. Click here for a map showing where Gisborne is located. (And also a description of one of my adventures)
I was educated at Lytton High School. I was in the second year of the school, so it was a unique educational experience , with only one class ahead of us. Hmmm - that's odd - I just realised, this meant we were the "second" class, with one older class before us. Just like I am the second son, with my brother Neil being 10 years older than me, as the oldest brother.
During my High School years, I spent a lot of my time tramping and canoeing in the wilderness areas around Gisborne. My favourite area was the national park around Lake Waikarimoana , click on this URL to get information about this beautiful wilderness. (That URL takes you to the Government Parks web site .. this one takes you to a commercial web site specific to the lake.) This link takes you to a description of how the lakes in this area were formed.
I left Gisborne when I was seventeen to work in the Big City of Auckland.
At one time, I also spent 6 months living in Dunedin (near the bottom of the South Island). But it was too quiet, and too cold, so I quickly headed back north to Auckland. |
