17/10/05: Had a talk today with the Business Agent who is acting for the owner. It sounds interesting !! I went there with a bit of a sceptical attitude, but the guy gave us enough information that I am starting to think that this is a chance we can't afford to miss. We're going to drive there tomorrow (about 90 minutes travel each way) to have a look, have a few drinks, and try and get a feel for the place. Will take photos and post them here tomorrow.

Icon country pub with all facilities including accommodation for backpackers and owners accommodation. Country kitchen with quality pool and dart clubs. Gaming machines add to the mix with big outdoor area for bands and parties. Well situated to capture tourists, locals and backpackers.
31 October: Well ..... we went and had a look, a couple of times. Its about 2 hours drive from Auckland. (See the photos in the Photo Album). Almost made the decision to take it over, but then had some second thoughts. (Like, are the country locals ready to accept two bar owners like us !! ) And not so sure about the financial state of the tavern, over the full year. Probably very busy in the 3 months of summer, but probably very slow during the rest of the year. And there is a cow milking shed just 100 m from our house !!! (No problem about the smell of the milk, but it's what the cows do while they are waiting to be milked that is the problem !! ) And it is just a little bit too far away from the holiday resort of Whitianga. But ....... until we choose to do something else, this will still be a possibility, lurking in the back of our minds.
11 November: ..... yes, this is our choice !!!! And now it is a signed and done deal (almost - needs a few things to be OK'd yet, but don't expect any problems there) See the Photo Albums for photos of the place ... more coming when it becomes definite .... and there will be a special web site for the Tavern (of course, after all, I am a web developer in Lotus Domino !!) ... will post a link here when it is done ... and maybe a special link to give a preview as I develop the web site ... look here again in a couple of days.

18 November: Well, we now have a registered company, both of us passed the exam for our Bar Managers certificate, and the licence applications have been sent off. Got our first item of mail for the Company - and guess, yes it is a bill !!!! Did more work on the web site, and added some content into it..
24 November: It is now a done deal !!!!!! We own the tavern, and will take possession on 12 December !!!!
